uPVC stands for unplasticized polyvinyl chloride, and it starts off as a plastic powder. It is then heated up and injected into a mould in order to produce its shape as a strip of extraordinarily long uPVC window profile. Once the uPVC has cooled, it is then cut and readied to be built, together with other components, into what we recognise as a double or triple glazed window.

uPVC frames for double and triple glazed units function by containing various air chambers inside the frame. The utilisation of these many chambers allows more heat to be contained inside the frame resulting in enhanced thermal efficiency for your home. Thermal efficiency explains how efficient a specific material is as a heat insulator and is measured in Watts (W) lost per square metre of material (m2). This supplies us with a U-Value. The lower the U-value, the better, because it indicates that less heat is travelling through your window frames.
